Municipal Court

Municipal courts hear cases involving motor vehicles offenses, such as illegal parking, speeding and driving while intoxicated. They also hear cases involving minor criminal offenses such as simple assault, trespassing and shoplifting; known as disorderly persons offenses. Cases involving hunting, fishing and boating laws and even minor disputes between neighbors are also heard in municipal courts.

More serious cases, such as robbery (taking something by using force), auto theft and assault will be transferred to the Camden County Superior Court.

Frequently Asked Questions & Information concerning Municipal Court Zoom sessions

How can I unmute?

If you are calling from a landline, the option *6 will allow you to unmute at the host’s request. If you are logged in from a smartphone, desktop, laptop, or tablet, there will be a notification on the screen to unmute when the host requests you to unmute. Keep in mind, you can only unmute when the host requests you to unmute.

What if I can’t hear any audio?

If you are using a smartphone, use the option “Call using internet audio.” There is also an option on a computer that allows you to “connect audio.”

Is Zoom free?

Yes, the Zoom application is free to join meetings. If you do not have a smartphone, or any other electronic device with internet access, you can dial to the number provided on your Zoom invite.

Why have I been removed from the session?

Like any other court proceeding, each person must be identified for the record during the session. Throughout the session, the host will ask people to identify themselves with their first and last name. If after three attempts the person does not identify themselves, they will be removed from the court session. If there is a technical issue, please email the court at court@haddontwp.com or call 856-854-1176, ext. 6252 or ext. 6253.  

When will my name be called?

Haddon Township Municipal Court usually has 75-100 people scheduled for each court session. Keep in mind, although it is not in-person, it is no different than being in a building with about 75-100 people. Once you are checked in, the prosecutor will speak with you and then your case will go to the judge. Please be patient.

 


PAYMENTS

Defendants may make payments for Municipal Complaint Time Payment Orders, in addition to parking and traffic matters, through the municipal court’s online payment website at njmcdirect.com.  The Court ID for Haddon Twp/Audubon Park Municipal Court is 0416.  Haddon Twp. & Audubon Park Municipal Courts merged in September of 2009.  Any court matters pertaining to Audubon Park prior to September of 2009, please use municipal court code 0402.

Payments will also continue to be accepted at the court payment window or by mail. The court payment window is open Monday-Friday,  8:30am-4:30 pm.  From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Summer hours are in effect—Monday – Thursday, 8 am – 5:30 pm.  Closed on Fridays during the summer.


APPLICATION FOR PUBLIC DEFENDER

If you are charged with an indictable offense in New Jersey (called a felony in other states), you are entitled to be represented by an attorney, whether or not you can afford one. If you cannot afford an attorney, you can apply for a public defender and the court will decide if one can be appointed to represent you.

PRIVATE CITIZEN MUNICIPAL COMPLAINT 

In New Jersey, a private citizen can initiate a complaint in Municipal Court against someone who has allegedly violated a law or ordinance. This process involves filing a Complaint Information Form with the court, alongside a certification detailing the alleged offense and the specific law or ordinance violated.

REQUEST A HEARING/PLEA OF NOT GUILTY

If you are NOT eligible for online ticket review, you may request to plead Not Guilty and have your tickets heard in court. Please choose one of the following options to receive a court date:

1. Visit the Court Information Window in-person at the Haddon Twp. Municipal Court located at 135 Haddon Ave. Haddon Twp. NJ 08108.
Our Information Window hours are:
Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM –during normal working hours.  Summer hours are in effect from Memorial Day through Labor Day—Monday – Thursday, 8 am – 5:30 pm.  Closed on Fridays during the summer.

REQUEST ADJOURNMENT FOR TRAFFIC & NON-TRAFFIC MATTERS

Requests for adjournments are NOT automatically granted. They will be reviewed by the Court. Adjournment requests must be made VERBALLY  or in-person at least THREE (3) WORKING DAYS before your scheduled court date.

If you have an existing court date and want to request an adjournment,  email the the following to court@haddontwp.com or callus at 856-854-1176 ext.6252 or ext. 6253.

  • Your name/Offender’s name
  • Phone number
  • Prefix and ticket/complaint number
  • Mailing address
  • Scheduled Court Date
  • Reason for adjournment

Your original court date has not been changed until you receive a confirmation email that your request to adjourn has been granted.


MISSED COURT OR PAYMENT DATES-PARKING TICKETS & MOVING VIOLATIONS

When a court date or payment date is missed, a notice will be mailed to you at the address on file with the division of motor vehicles in the state where the vehicle is registered.

Each new notice will advise you of the new payment date and will increase the original fine by not less than $10.00. The notices will continue until the fine is paid or your license is suspended.

Parking tickets and moving violations may be paid online at NJMCdirect.com, by mail or in-person as long as the ticket has NOT been marked “Court Appearance Required”.

PLEA BY MAIL

Plead not guilty or guilty in certain traffic or parking cases, or guilty in certain non-traffic cases.

Complete the Plea by Mail form.  Email supporting documents to court@haddontwp.com  or mail to Haddon Twp. Municipal Court, 135 Haddon Ave. Haddon Twp. NJ 08108.

DRIVER’S LICENSE RESTORATION

To restore a New Jersey driver’s license:

You must first pay, at the Violations Bureau, the unpaid fines and costs, which were the reason for your suspension.

Then you must go to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (NJMVC) with the receipt from the Violations Bureau to have your license restored. A license restoration fee will be charged by the NJMVC.
