Look Who's Single...
Until now, subscribers to Verizon cable did not receive the local Public Education and Government Channel of Haddon Township (known to many as Channel 19 - Comcast). Recently, the township entered an agreement with Verizon to launch an identical channel for Verizon subscribers. After months of preparation, Channel 46 became operational in September of 2009. The content, schedule and message board will be
identical to the existing Comcast channel 19. As this new cable TV channel premieres, we encourage
residents to become more active in its programming. If you have ideas for programming, or the ability to film township and school events, we wish to hear from you. Common material for public access channels includes interviews, speeches, community gatherings and performances. Airtime is doled out on a content-neutral, first-come, first-served basis.
"We want to air all of the township and school events for all to enjoy" Pat Thieringer, Community Activities Coordinator states. Programming includes school athletic contests, performing arts programs, and civic celebrations. To do so will require a large number of volunteers to film and edit.
Residents interested in helping to develop this new Verizon channel and simultaneously increase programming on Comcast Channel 19, can contact Pat Thieringer at 856-854-0926 or at pthieringer@haddon.k12.nj.us.

Look Who's Single...
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and cut collection costs, Haddon Township will go to “single stream” with ZERO SORT® RECYCLING beginning September 1st, 2009.
What is “single stream” recycling?
Single stream recycling is the collection of mixed paper and commingle recyclables in one container. A “single stream” program integrates the separation and collection components of recycling; all recyclable materials, except for organics, are collected in one “stream.”
How does “single stream” recycling reduce our town’s carbon footprint and save money?
Because single stream allows for the collection of recyclables in one vehicle, instead of two, less fossil fuels are utilized for collection. Less fossil fuels, less vehicles, and less manpower needed for the recycling collection significantly reduces the cost of collection. Additionally, “single-stream” recycling will save valuable tax dollars on “cost avoidance.” Studies have found that “single –stream” recycling increases participation rates an average of 15% to 17%; therefore, more material recycled means less money “avoided” on landfill fees.
How does single stream affect how I put out my recycling?
Single stream allows residents to put all their recyclables into one container. Haddon Township residents may place all of their recycling into the large red container for pickup.
What if I still sort my recycling into two containers?
Residents who choose to continue to sort recyclables, will still have their recyclables picked up at the curb. Single stream recycling refers only to the process by which recyclable materials are collected.
What is Zero-Sort® recycling?
Zero-Sort® recycling is only the fancy name given to the “single stream” process by Casella, the company which handles our recyclable material!

Public Works/Recycling
Leaf Collection:
Curbside leaf collection will begin mid-October and continue
through November and December. Sweeping, raking, blowing
or placing leaves at the curb is only allowed during leaf collection
season. Leaves may be raked and placed no closer than
ten feet from a storm drain. Leaf collection will be done in
each neighborhood every week to ten days during leaf collection
season as weather permits. To insure pick-up of your
leaves, all leaves must be raked curbside, and be free of twigs,
brush, vines and foreign debris. Any questions regarding leaf
collection may be directed to the Public Works Department at
856-854-1825.
Recycling has never been so sweet!
Terracycle and the Haddon Township community have
partnered to recycle all candy wrappers. Terracycle will

Animal Shelter. The collection is not limited to pictured
wrappers. Fun size wrappers are also acceptable. Drop off
wrappers at Ace Hardware, Haddon Township Municipal
Building,or the Rohrer Library. If you have any questions,
please contact Recycling Coordinator Barbara Prince at

Trash or Commodity at the Curb:

Last year, Haddon Township residents saved nearly $200,000 in disposal costs by recycling paper, commingle (plastic, glass, aluminum, and steel), and yard waste. Moreover, the sale of recyclable material contributed... Click here to read more.
